The Bear breaks record that Schitt’s Creek held for most wins in a season for a comedy series
FERNTV found out that many records were broken last night at The Emmys. To highlight a few, Elton John joined the EGOT club after winning the Emmy for his Variety Special. The Bear which broke Schitt’s Creek’s record for the most Emmy wins in a season for a comedy series (10). Quinta Brunson (“Abbott Elementary”) became only the second African-American actress to win in the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series category (40 years after Isabel Sanford). Ali Wong (“Beef”) became the first actress of Asian descent to win in the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series category. Sarah Snook (“Succession”) became the first Australian actress to win in the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series category! Individual Records
- Quinta Brunson (“Abbott Elementary”) became only the second African-American actress to win in the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series category and the first one in more than 40 years (the first and only actress to ever do so was Isabel Sanford in 1981)
- Ali Wong (“Beef”) became the first woman of Asian descent to win in the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series category
- Sarah Snook (“Succession”) became the first Australian actress to win in the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series category
- Elton John joined the elite club of EGOT winners after winning an Emmy for Outstanding Variety Special (Live) for “Elton John Live: Farewell from Dodger Stadium”
- RuPaul extended his record as the most awarded host in the Outstanding Host for a Reality or Competition category as well as the host with the most consecutive wins – he has won for the past 8 years
Series Records
- The Bear broke Schitt’s Creek’s record from 2020 for the most Emmy wins in a season for a comedy series since it won 10 Emmys (Schitt’s Creek record was 9)
- “Saturday Night Live” extended its record as the most awarded TV program in the Emmys history – after winning 2 Emmys at the Creative Arts Emmys, it has now won 89 Emmys (or 95 if its specials would be counted)
- “RuPaul’s Drag Race” extended its record as the most awarded reality program in the Emmys history – after winning 2 Emmys at the Creative Arts Emmys, and one Emmy at the Primetime Emmys, it has now won 29 Emmys in total
- “The Simpsons” extended its record as the most awarded animated program in the Emmys history – after winning two trophies at the Creative Arts Emmys (including one for the Best Animated Program which made it its 12th win in the category), it has now won 37 Emmys
