Christopher Reeve may have been the man who innovated superhero cinema back in 1978 when he first donned the tights as what has been known as one of the greatest comic book superheroes of all time. To this day many have said that Christopher Reeve is still the best Clark Kent to become Superman. Reeve was tall, muscular, handsome and believable as the iconic and legendary figure of DC Comics. Even though there were those before him like Kirk Alyn and George Reeves, there was always something special about Christopher Reeve. With four films under his belt, Christopher played his Superman and his alter ego Clark Kent to the way we all envisioned him to be.

It was how he was able to woo Margot Kidder who played Lois Lane off her feet when he was Superman. Or how geeky, klutzy and inexperienced he was when he was the aspiring journalist at The Daily Planet. It could have been the way he fought his villains to the end like Lex Luthor and General Zod. But most of all it was the way he loved his family and the ones that were close to him. Especially that of the one he loved the most which was Lois Lane.

Fatal Accident

But it wasn’t all flying high for Reeve throughout his career. A tragic accident while riding a horse led to him becoming paralyzed from the neck down in 1995. He became quadriplegic and had to depend on a ventilator to breathe. He became an activist in stem cell research, spinal cord injury treatment and disability rights. Reeve managed to still direct films and television before his death in 2004.

Filmmakers Ian Bonhôte and Peter Ettedgui will weave back and forth into the life of Christopher Reeve. The filmmakers of the notable and critically acclaimed McQueen crafted this masterpiece biopic of someone who paved the way for many in the film industry and the disabled. Not many knew about the work he done after the fatal accident where he truly become a real life Superman. But these courageous filmmakers will show in this documentary that Christopher Reeve was like no other. FERNTV says you will not X-ray vision for this one.

Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve story will premiere at Sundance Film Festival Jan. 18th, 2024
