Jennifer Coolidge plays Ruth in Riff Raff

Riff Raff, the latest pitch-black comedy from director Dito Montiel, will premiere at TIFF 2024, showcasing a stellar ensemble cast including Ed Harris, Gabrielle Union, Jennifer Coolidge, Bill Murray, and Pete Davidson. The film centers on Vincent (Harris), a reformed criminal who yearns for a quiet, normal life with his wife Sandy (Union) and their teenage son DJ (Miles J. Harvey). Their plan for a peaceful winter retreat in a secluded cabin seems perfect, but their idyllic holiday takes a dark turn when unexpected guests arrive.

The disruption begins with the appearance of Vincent’s estranged son Rocco (Lewis Pullman) and his girlfriend Marina (Emanuela Postacchini), who, along with Vincent’s ex-wife Ruth (Coolidge), bring alarming news. The family is warned that the infamous gangsters Leftie (Murray) and Lonnie (Davidson) are on their way, intending to bring trouble. What starts as a cozy family getaway quickly spirals into a chaotic and darkly comedic situation as the group must navigate both their tensions and the looming threat of violence.

Montiel’s film expertly balances sharp humour with suspense, creating a riveting experience as the family tries to fend off the encroaching danger. With standout performances from Murray and Coolidge, and a narrative that explores themes of redemption, familial conflict, and survival, Riff Raff promises to be a memorable addition to this year’s film festival, offering both laughs and thrills in equal measure. FERNTV knows that this ensemble will be the one to keep an eye on during TIFF.
