SXSW 2023
Prepping for a National Geographic Wild Life @SXSW 2023
Oscar winners Jimmy Chin and Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi return to the screen with Wild Life

The expectations are running high for National Geographic. Especially after the groundbreaking success of Fire of Love last year in the film circuit. Expectations may that be much higher for Oscar-winning directors Jimmy Chin and Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi. They won the award for Free Solo which won Best Documentary Feature in 2019. The intimate documentary followed the mountain climber Alex Honnold. A breathtaking documentary that explored new levels of heights when it came to filmmaking and rock climbing.
Wild Life which is Chin’s and Vasarhelyi’s newest installment under National Geographic lets the discover a different world. Maybe not high in latitude but in gratitude as the film focuses on conservationist Kris Tompkins. Her love for nature and the outdoors reflects in her work that spanned decades. She fell in love with her husband Doug Tompkins in mid-life. Doug was an outdoorsman and entrepreneur who charmed Kris into his life. Along with Kris, they left the corporate life of branding Esprit, The North Face and Patagonia for the Great Outdoors.
The two embarked on this challenging journey to save landscapes in Chile and Argentina. Above all, to change these into National Parks. There are many highs and lows to this journey that could not be documented better than by Chin and Vasarhelyi.
FERNTV was able to get to the red carpet premiere of Wild Life at the @SXSW 2023.
