No sign of The Batman in Russia
The Batman is being pulled from theatres in Russia due to the war with Ukraine
You would think that it would be a good sign if Batman was able to head over to Moscow. The Batman would maybe show Putin a thing or two during Russia’s war with Ukraine. With that being a fantasy in itself, much is happening to the Caped Crusader when it comes to Russia. Simply put, he is not going to show up.
Due to the war, Russian vodka is being pulled from the shelves. Alex Ovechkin is no longer being sponsored by CCM. Also, Russian national teams are being banned from FIFA. This meant it was only a matter of time before Hollywood would get in on the act with their stance. The Batman which is slated to be one of this year’s biggest blockbusters is being pulled from all Russian theatres.
In light of the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine, WarnerMedia is pausing the release of ‘The Batman’ in Russia. We will continue to monitor the situation as it evolves,” a WarnerMedia spokesperson said Monday night. “We hope for a swift and peaceful resolution to this tragedy.
Furthermore, Disney has also said that it will be halting all of this year’s releases to Russia. This includes the much anticipated “Dr. Strange in the Multiverse Madness” slated to open on May 5th. As well as Pixar’s “Lightyear” which will open on June 16th.
Netflix has also announced that it is refusing to air Russian state TV channels to their country on its service.
The Batman is one of the most iconic and profitable movie brands in history. It is said that the superhero has made over $5billion US in the box office worldwide.
FERNTV feels this seems to be only the beginning when it comes to pulling movies in Russia.
