Emilia Pérez Leads the Oscars With 13 Nominations

Emila Perez is the first non-English language film to receive 13 Oscar nominations

Karla Sofía Gascón and Zoe Saldana in Emilia Perez

“Emilia Pérez” broke the record for the most Oscar nominations received by a non-English-language film after receiving 13 nominations, Best Actress nominee Karla Sofía Gascón (“Emilia Pérez”) became the first openly transgender actress to get nominated in any acting category, Diane Warren tied the record for the most nominated individual without a win (regardless of a category) after receiving her 16th nomination for “The Journey” in the Best Original Song category while Best Actress nominee Fernanda Torres(“I’m Still Here) became only the second Brazilian ever to be nominated for an acting performance at the Oscars, following her mother Fernanda Montenegro.

To highlight a few of the records that could be broken at the 97th Academy Awards in March 2025, “Emilia Pérez” which received 13 nominations could tie or break the record for the most Oscars won by a single film in one night (currently 11) as well as the record for the most Oscars won by a non English-language film in one night (currently 4), Sean Baker, who received 4 nominations in various categories for “Anora”, could tie Walt Disney’s record for the most Oscar wins in a single night (4), Timothée Chalamet (“A Complete Unknown”) could break Adrien Brody’s record and become the youngest actor to win in the Best Actor in a Leading Role category, Cynthia Erivo (“Wicked”) could become only the second black actress to ever win in the Best Actress in a Leading Role category and the first one in more than 20 years, Fernanda Torres (“I’m Still Here”) could become the first Brazilian to win for an acting performance while Ed Lachman (“Maria”) could break the record for the oldest person to win in the Best Cinematography category.  FERNTV says that this might be a tight race.

Hollywood has revealed the nominations for this year’s Oscars, which will honour the film industry’s finest stars and movies from the past 12 months.

The announcement was going to be last week but was postponed twice due to fires in the Los Angeles area.
