Nicolas Cage as Paul Matthews in Dream Scenario

What would TIFF be without Nicolas Cage right? Ever since Mandy, the legendary actor has sought out and been in unique roles. Circulating within the independent scene has increased his stardom once again. Having him land compelling roles such as this one under A24 universe.

Nicolas Cage is tenured professor Paul Matthews in Dream Scenario from director Kristoffer Borgli. Paul Matthews is a hapless family man who has an act for evolutionary biology and anxiety. Not much is going on in his life until he starts appearing in people’s dreams. Growing exponentially, Matthews finds himself observing the dreams and fantasies of others in a non-intrusive manner. This causes Paul to get the attention he always dreamed of as he becomes an overnight celebrity.

Things start to go south almost immediately when a dreamer’s vision is out of the norm. Instead, they are violent ones of Paul Matthews that lay in the subconscious of this dreamer. This is where Matthews begins to learn the price and the dark side of fame.

Dreams Do Come True…

Producer Ari Aster has always been known to conjure up surrealist horror and anxious comedy. Dream Scenario plays to be a comedic reversal of A Nightmare on Elm Street. Paying homage to the film and the iconic Freddy Krueger, Mathews dons the striped sweater and terrorizes the dreams of others. But eventually, it becomes a nightmare for Matthews who must face the consequences of his actions. With a supporting cast of Julianne Nicholson and Michael Cera, Dream Scenario is set to portray the intense horrifying side of Nicolas Cage.

Director Kristoffer Borgli dives deep into criticizing influencer culture and societal groupthink. Who better to put a tight focus on that vision than the iconic Nicolas Cage?
