THE POWER OF DOG LEADS OSCAR NOMINATIONS 2022
The Power of the Dog leads with 12 Oscar nominations
There were rumours spreading this winter about which films to be nominated Best Picture. Specifically, Jane Campion‘s The Power of the Dog which slipped into TIFF quietly. The western which stars Kirsten Dunst and Benedict Cumberbatch took the industry by storm and critics praising what is known to be a masterpiece. The Oscar Nominations were announced today and The Power of Dog lead the pack with 12 including Best Picture.
Other notables from today’s announcement was a nomination for Denzel Washington‘s performance for The Tragedy of MacBeth. Denzel now is the most nominated black actor of all time.
Troy Kotsur became the first male deaf actor nominated for an Oscar for his performance in the film “CODA“. He is the second deaf actor nominated for an Oscar after Marlee Matlin was nominated and won for Children of a Lesser God back in 1986.
Lin-Manuel Miranda was nominated for the song “Dos Oruguitas” from Disney’s “Encanto.” This brings Miranda one step closer to potentially becoming a member of the elite “EGOT” group, stars who have won Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony awards.
Kenneth Branagh won the People’s Choice Award for Belfast at TIFF. He is nominated for best director and best film. It is going to be one hell of a show at this year’s Oscars. Should we expect any surprises?
