We here at FERNTV get many emails in regards to new and young musicians but the one that we received in regards to Rosie Carney was rather different. Maybe it was her look and that she did not try to look like the rest of the up and comers. We knew right away here on FERNTV that this Irish singer has something to say and a story to tell and we were blown away by the sound of her voice. The 19-year old is doing her music the way she wants to and the world will get to know who exactly Rosie Carney is at SXSW. FERNTV spoke to Rosie Carney on her thoughts being part of this festival.
FERNTV:Â Â Can you tell us your earliest memory when it comes to singing?
Rosie:Â Â My earliest memory when it comes to singing would have to be when I was a little girl, say about 5, singing and playing songs on the piano to my parents.
FERNTV:Â Tell us here on FERNTV who discovered you and when and where this took place and took you to the next level in your musical career?
Rosie:Â Well, when I was younger, I was at a youth club, and a local musician from a local band (In Their Thousands) came in to show us how to play and play some guitar to us. He passed me the guitar and recorded me singing and playing (badly). He then went on to record for me a handful of songs I had written. This helped and inspired me to write more songs and learn more about the guitar and resulted in getting me the gig that introduced me to my then manager.
FERNTV:Â Who would you credit in supporting and helping you the most when it actually comes to songwriting?
Rosie:Â Those who have inspired each song.
FERNTV:Â How do you take in all in and how does your peers react to you when it comes success?
Rosie:Â I try not to think about the things that are happening to me too much, merely to remain grounded. I have tried and always will try to remain in the moment when it comes to any opportunities. I also try focusing on each choice I make and how it will benefit the bigger picture. Everyone is so supportive around me. I wouldnât be where I am today if it werenât for most of the people around me, so itâs just as successful for them also.
FERNTV:Â Â Tell us what is it like to work with Charlie Doherty who directed your latest video “Better Man”?
Rosie:Â Working with Charlie Doherty on my music videos has been such an inspiring and eye-opening experience. He treats each song and project as if it were his own, resulting in such carefully crafted stories and visuals. Being a musician himself (clanns), itâs so good and refreshing to work with someone who is able to see from and put themselves into all creative and artistic views both musically and visually.
FERNTV:Â What is your favourite venue to perform at and tell us why that place compliments your music?
Rosie:Â I love performing in churches. I like the haunting and ambient atmosphere they create. My favourite venue I have performed in to date is St James Church for Other Voices.
FERNTV:Â Â How does it feel to be part of SXSW this year?
Rosie:Â No words can describe how it feels. I am completely and utterly honoured to be playing my music at such a prestigious event.
FERNTV:Â What else is coming up for you this year?
Rosie:Â Iâll see when I get there. Until then, just getting my music out there.
